What is Otoplasty?
Patients wishing to have their ears lay more flatly against the head have found a lot of success with otoplasty, or ear surgery, procedures at Janiga MDs.
Otoplasty, also commonly known as “ear pinning,” is a procedure performed on children and adults who would like to have their ears lay flatter or who would like the shape of the ears changed. Otoplasty is used to correct protruding ears most commonly but is also a great tool to correct irregularly shaped ears, large or stretched earlobes, and prominent ears that are easily injured. Depending on the issue at hand, patients can undergo cosmetic ear surgery on only one ear.
The Procedure
Dr. Timothy Janiga performs otoplasty surgery using local anesthesia in our Reno office. In most cases, an incision is made behind the outer ear, allowing for ear reshaping, folding, or having underlying cartilage removed to reposition misshapen ears. The incision site is then sutured shut.
Ear pinning surgery takes about an hour and requires very little downtime.
