What is a Brow Lift?
We all express emotions. The collective laughs, frowns, and expressions are what color our lives and make life so rich. But these expressions can also take their toll as you age. One of the best ways to reverse these signs of aging is the brow lift.
At Janiga MDs, we offer the brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, to help elevate and smooth out undesirable frown lines – visible signs of aging and sun damage that appear between the eyebrows. It can also help correct forehead lines, the horizontal lines that tend to form from facial expressions like raising your eyebrows.
The brow lift procedure has been carefully designed to return a sagging brow to a more natural position and give you a more youthful appearance. It can also correct uneven brows or lift drooping eyebrows that cover the upper eyelids. It can be combined with other cosmetic procedures including upper eyelid surgery, neck lift, or face lift for even more rejuvenating results.

The Procedure
A brow lift or mini-brow lift is performed in our Reno outpatient surgical facility by award-winning, board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Timothy Janiga. During your brow lift consultation, you and Dr. Janiga will carefully choose the brow lift technique that will most help you achieve a more refreshed, younger appearance and better self confidence.
A brow lift can be performed with an endoscope or through an open incision approach. With an endoscopic brow lift, small incisions are discreetly placed in the hairline and the device inserted to lift and rejuvenate the underlying muscles and tissues. The endoscopic brow lift is generally better for patients who have more moderate signs of aging in the brow or who have a high hairline and want to avoid visible scarring.
During the traditional brow lift or coronal brow lift approach, a long incision is placed across the scalp near the frontal hairline to elevate the brow. This technique requires longer incisions but can more effectively lift sagging eyebrows and get rid of excess skin.
Both techniques allow for smoothing, tightening, and precise lifting of the underlying tissues to get rid of deep furrows, vertical frown lines, and sagging brows. The type of procedure Dr. Janiga performs depends on your specific anatomy and desired outcome. The brow lift procedure takes approximately one hour with another hour for recovery before you can go home.
Recovery & Results
Depending on your profession and need for personal discretion, you may need to allow five to seven days before returning to work after your cosmetic procedure. During your follow up appointments with Dr. Timothy Janiga, you will determine your specific recovery time. Full results are expected in 8-12 weeks.
During your recovery, you’ll be prescribed pain medication and anti-inflammatory medications to help ease swelling and discomfort. For the first few weeks, you should avoid exercise and heavy lifting. Make sure to also sleep with your head elevated on some pillows. Dr. Janiga will provide detailed aftercare instructions on how to prepare for your brow lift surgery and recovery.
Once fully recovered, you will notice that your forehead area is smoother, your frown lines are reduced, your eyebrows are lifted, your skin is tighter, and your eyes appear brighter for an overall more youthful and refreshed look.
Frequently Asked Questions about Brow Lift
Does a brow lift get rid of forehead wrinkles?
Yes, a brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, can significantly reduce the appearance of forehead wrinkles. This surgical procedure aims to raise the brows and smooth out the forehead skin, addressing both horizontal lines across the forehead and the vertical frown lines between the eyebrows. Individuals opting for a brow lift often seek a more youthful, refreshed look, and one of the key benefits is the reduction of deep creases and wrinkles on the forehead. Moreover, the results of a brow lift are typically long-lasting, making it a popular choice for those wishing to counteract the signs of aging. However, its essential to have realistic expectations and understand that while a brow lift can dramatically improve forehead wrinkles, it may not eliminate them completely. Each persons skin elasticity and individual circumstances contribute to the final outcome.
How long does a brow lift last?
The longevity of a brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, can vary significantly depending on individual factors such as skin quality, lifestyle, and genetics. Typically, the results of a brow lift can last anywhere from 5 to 10 years. The surgical procedure aims to elevate the eyebrows and address forehead wrinkles, creating a more youthful appearance. It is important to maintain a stable weight, follow a healthy skincare regimen, and protect the skin from excessive sun exposure to prolong the results. Additionally, non-surgical treatments like fillers and Botox can complement and extend the benefits of a brow lift. As surgical techniques and technology advance, the effects of brow lifts may evolve to last even longer, offering a more durable solution for those seeking to rejuvenate their facial aesthetics.
What is the difference between a brow lift and blepharoplasty?
Understanding the difference between a brow lift and blepharoplasty is key for individuals considering facial rejuvenation procedures. A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, aims to reposition the brows to a higher, more youthful position, which can in turn reduce the appearance of forehead wrinkles and frown lines. This procedure typically addresses the upper portion of the face and can create a more alert and refreshed look.nnIn contrast, a blepharoplasty, often referred to as eyelid surgery, is specifically focused on improving the eyelids. It can be performed on the upper lids to remove excess skin that is sagging and possibly impairing vision, or on the lower lids to reduce under-eye bags and wrinkles. Blepharoplasty targets the signs of aging around the eyes themselves and is not intended to lift the brows or alter the forehead.nnBoth surgeries can have a profound impact on facial appearance, enhancing ones look with subtle yet significant changes. Understanding these distinctions helps individuals make an informed decision about which surgical option might best achieve their aesthetic goals.
Will brow lift cause hair loss?
A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, is a cosmetic procedure designed to raise the brows and improve the appearance of the forehead, the brow, and the area around the eyes. While it is generally a safe procedure, one of the concerns potential patients may have is whether a brow lift can cause hair loss. The risk of hair loss after a brow lift is relatively low, but it is not entirely absent. Temporary thinning or hair loss along the incision lines is possible, particularly in procedures where an incision is made along or behind the hairline. This can be due to several factors, such as tension on the scalp skin, the bodys response to surgical trauma, or damage to hair follicles during the procedure. However, skilled plastic surgeons take great care to minimize this risk and position the incisions strategically to reduce any impact on hair growth. It is essential to follow the surgeons post-operative care instructions to promote proper healing and reduce the likelihood of complications. Overall, permanent significant hair loss from a brow lift is uncommon, and many patients experience a full return of normal hair growth over time.
Does brow lift change eye shape?
A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, can indeed change the appearance of your eye shape to some extent. The procedure is designed to raise the eyebrows, which can result in a more open and alert look. This lifting effect might slightly alter the way the upper eyelid falls, thereby giving the illusion of a modest change in eye shape. However, it is important to note that a brow lift primarily targets the brow and forehead regions, and any changes to the eye shape are usually secondary or a byproduct of the procedure. For individuals seeking more significant changes to their eye shape, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) might be recommended in conjunction with or instead of a brow lift. Its essential to discuss expectations with a board-certified plastic surgeon who can provide personalized insights on the potential outcomes of a brow lift or any combined procedures.
