What is Inverted Nipple Repair?
What causes inverted nipples? It can depend on a variety of factors. While some people are born with the condition, others develop it over time due to tissue inflammation. There are two types of inverted nipples: “shy” nipples and permanently inverted nipples. “Shy” nipples tend to appear to be inverted but will respond to stimulation. Permanently inverted nipples remain inverted at all times.
In either case, the team at Janiga MDs is here to help you achieve the ideal look through inverted nipple repair, a procedure designed to release the surrounding fibers that are causing the nipple to be inverted.
The Procedure
Dr. Timothy Janiga performs inverted nipple repairs at our Reno office in our dedicated procedure room using local anesthesia. First, he makes a small incision in the areola while the nipple is held in an “out” position. Several sutures are then placed under the skin to hold the nipple in place.
Inverted nipple repair takes about 30 minutes per nipple to perform.

Recovery & Results
Results are immediate and are expected to be permanent. A protective device will be placed over the nipple for a couple of days after surgery to ensure it does not retract during the healing process. Recovery time takes about one week.
