What is a Tummy Tuck?
The male tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat and skin to create a flatter, more contoured abdomen. It can be the most effective way to remove unwanted skin and fat that comes with changes in weight, age, and other factors. Men who have lost a significant amount of weight often have loose tissue in the abdominal area because of stretching that takes place during weight gain. Normal aging can also cause a significant amount of skin laxity in the midsection for men. Some medications can cause men to store significant amounts of fat in the stomach area, contributing to laxity of the skin and muscles. Abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, is an effective way to address laxity and stubborn fat in the stomach.
The Procedure
Tummy tucks are performed under general anesthesia at a Reno outpatient surgery center by Dr. Timothy Janiga. The procedure generally involves an incision under the underwear line, and then along the pubic bone to allow for muscle and skin tightening as well as fat removal.
Abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, typically takes around two to three hours with two to three hours of post-surgery recovery time before you can go home with the help of a trusted friend or family member.

Recovery & Results
Dr. Timothy Janiga will examine you during your follow-up visit and give you the best idea of when you can return to work based on your profession. You should generally avoid lifting more than five to ten pounds for the first weeks following surgery. Depending on your profession, you can plan to return to work within two to six weeks. Full results are expected within three months of your tummy tuck.
Once fully recovered, you’ll notice a tighter, slimmer waistline and abdomen.
