What is Microneedling?
At Janiga MDs, we offer microneedling treatments with the most reputable and effective DermaPen technology which uses small needles to make microscopic channels into the epidermis and the top portion of the dermis. The depth of the needle penetration can be tailored for patient comfort and recovery requirements. The tiny channels placed in the skin stimulate collagen, smooth fine lines, improve texture, and even improve the appearance of scars and stretch marks.
Am I a Good Candidate for Microneedling?
Microneedling is safe for all skin types and textures. If you have texture irregularities, mild acne scarring, or fine lines, you are likely a good candidate for this treatment. It is especially effective for those who have texture changes like from acne scarring on their face.
The Procedure
For microneedling treatments, we apply a topical anesthetic to the treatment area for a few minutes in order to improve comfort during the procedure. After you are sufficiently numb, the numbing medication is removed, and the skin is cleansed quickly with an antiseptic to remove any debris or bacteria prior to the treatment. Next, we will pass the microneedling tip over the face. All in all, the treatment takes less than an hour and you can return to your regular activities immediately afterwards. Microneedling is not sun sensitizing, so it is a great treatment for all skin types all year round.
Recovery & Results
After your microneedling session, your skin will be slightly pink similar to a sunburn and may develop a small amount of swelling. Your skin will likely feel tight, but there is no downtime with this procedure, you can go about your normal activities. It is likely, however, that you would may want to avoid significant social situations for 2-3 days while your skin settles after treatment. Microneedling is usually done with a series of treatments throughout the year.
