What is Dysport®?
Although nothing can completely stop the process of aging, some great botulinum neurotoxins have been created to treat lines and wrinkles on the face. One of these advancements comes in the form of Dysport®, a brand of botulinum toxin that’s similar to what’s found in BOTOX®. Dysport® injections, as compared with BOTOX®, may vary in dosage, time of onset, and how long the results last. Each patient is different and may prefer one botulinum toxin product over the other.
For cosmetic purposes, Dysport® is FDA-approved to treat glabellar lines (frown lines) for three to four months. The wrinkle treatment temporarily inhibits muscle contractions in and around the injection site.
Dysport® injections are usually used to treat men and women in their 30s – 70s to prevent wrinkles on the face. If patients receive their initial treatment with Dysport® before wrinkles show up, it may be able to prevent lines from forming in the first place.
When used correctly, Dysport® will result in a very natural look, temporarily diminishing wrinkles and relaxing facial muscle spasms.
The Procedure
Anesthesia is not required with Dysport®. Instead, the area will be cleaned and prepared for the cosmetic injections, and depending on your desired results, multiple injections may be required. Dysport® treatments are performed in the Janiga MDs Reno, NV office, and the procedure generally takes about 10 to 15 minutes, though the spread of toxin will continue well into recovery.
Once Dysport® is injected into the facial muscles, it takes two to seven days for the formula to go into effect and to see full results. There may be some injection site tenderness for a few hours, , but as the botulinum toxin settles, these effects will fade.
Recovery & Results
Patients may experience a small pinpoint bruise at the site of the intramuscular injection. This is not common, but it can happen. When injected, Dysport® takes about 20 minutes to be absorbed, so you will see small areas of injection site swelling where the injections were placed. It will fade relatively quickly.
Dysport® generally lasts for approximately three to four months, but before treating patients with Dysport® injections, our providers will gather their medical history to ensure there is no increased risk for negative side effects.
We ask you to refrain from vigorous physical activity for four hours after the procedure.
