Plastic Surgery For Men – On the Rise
Men Want to Look Younger Too
Recent articles and data from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons report that cosmetic surgery procedures in men are increasing. This is true for both in office procedures (botox, fillers, in-office facelift) and in operating room (facelift, ear pinning, liposuction). In my practice, I am also seeing the trend.
Men are enthusiastically embracing cosmetic surgery to make them look younger, especially men who are over the age of 50. Apparently, it is not only rich and famous movie stars, but also the average Joe who is embracing this popular new trend.
Fastest Growing Cosmetic Procedures for Men
According to recent research the number one cosmetic surgery for men is face lifts; the second most popular procedure is ear surgery.; soft tissue filler (Restylane, Juvederm, Perlane, Radiesse) comes in as the third most most popular.
The list is comprised of the fastest-growing surgical and minimally-invasive procedures from 2009 to 2010.
- Face Lift (14% increase)
- Ear Surgery (Otoplasty) – (11% increase)
- Soft Tissue Fillers – (10% increase)
- Botulinum Toxin Type A (aka Botox) (9% increase)
- Liposuction (7% increase)
Aging Baby Boomers May Explain this New Trend
According to ASPS President Phillip Haeck, “The growth in cosmetic surgical procedures for men may be a product of our aging baby boomers who are now ready to have plastic surgery.” So it appears that not only women, but now men also what to slow down the effect of aging. And why shouldn’t they? People want to look and feel their best, so they should not feel that a cosmetic procedure is only for one sex and not both.
