Fat Grafting For A More Youthful Appearance
While many cosmetic surgery patients are eager to find ways to rid their bodies of fat, some are looking to add it in all sorts of places you might not expect. The procedure is called fat grafting and, unlike liposuction, fat grafting is aimed at adding – rather than subtracting – volume to your face, buttocks and other areas.
Facial Fat Grafting
Probably the most commonly requested area for fat grafting is the face. As we age, it’s natural to experience thinning lips, prominent nasolabial folds, hollowing around the eyes, cheekbone and temple areas. The resulting loss of facial volume leads to a long, hollow expression and can make other parts of the face appear saggy. With fat grafting, we remove fat from other parts of the body and use it to re-balance the youthful proportions of your face. At Janiga MDs, we routinely place fat in patients’ temples, cheeks, nasolabial folds, marionette lines (in the corners of your mouth) and lips to give them a fuller appearance through revolumization.
There’s also an added benefit to fat grafting that’s not often discussed. In many patients we’ve performed the procedure on, we’ve noticed an improvement in their skin’s texture tone and vitality. Our belief is that this is a result of the stem cells that are transferred with the fat, giving a boost to the appearance of the skin.
In most cases, we combine facial fat grafting with a facelift, but the procedure can be performed alone, as well.
Fat Grafting In Buttocks
By now, you’ve heard of the Brazilian Butt Lift, the now-famous procedure that gives patients that much sought-after Kim Kardashian look. The look is achieved through grafting fat into the buttocks. As we age, our buttocks lose projection and can sag or become flat. Even if you’re not looking for a larger backside, fat grafting can still help give you a more youthful looking rear.
Fat grafting is nothing new. It has been around for quite a few years, but the technology we use for it has advanced, allowing us to use micro cannulas to place the fat very specifically into small areas of the face. It’s also hard to overlook the added benefit of the stem cells that are transplanted, improving overall texture of the skin. If you’re looking to turn back the hands of time (or at least make them run a little more slowly), Dr. Timothy Janiga for a consultation, we can discuss fat grafting and explore other cosmetic options tailored to your needs.
